On 22 October 2024, we decided to conduct a conscientization programme on the topic “AN AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON NUTRITION AND BALANCED DIET“. First we planned different activities that can do in the conscientization programme. Then we assigned different duties among the group members. At first we took the permission from school head mistress by signing the concerned letter. He agreed and told us to take any class we are teaching. So we choose VIII B for the conscientization programme. The time schedule we decided was 10. 15 am to 11am.Then we seek the permission from the class teacher of VIII B.He also agreed. After that, we arranged the classroom and make the necessary seating arrangements, LED screen, projector, laptop etc. After making necessary arrangements, we called the students in the classroom and ask them to sit comfortably. Also we told them that we are going to conduct an awareness program related to the topic “Nutrients and its importance “. They sit attentively and quietly.
Firstly starts the presentation by saying the introductory part i.e about nutrients. The session began with a detailed introduction to nutrients, covering their types and roles in maintaining health. This was followed by an explanation of how a nutrient-rich diet positively impacts growth, energy, and disease prevention. To make the session more engaging, a video was presented to emphasize the importance of exercise and the need to avoid junk food. This holistic approach aimed to inspire students to embrace healthier eating habits and prioritize their well-being.
Secondly, we educated the students about the different types of nutrients essential for the human body. We highlighted that nutrients are classified into two main categories: macronutrients and micronutrients. we discussed, Macronutrients are required by the body in large quantities and include carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Carbohydrates serve as the primary energy source for daily activities, proteins are essential for building and repairing body tissues, and fats provide long-term energy storage and aid in the functioning of cells. These nutrients form the foundation of a balanced diet and are critical for growth and energy.
Micronutrients, though needed in smaller amounts, are equally important for overall health. These include vitamins and minerals that support various bodily functions. For example, vitamins such as A, C, and D help boost immunity and promote healthy skin and bones, while minerals like calcium and iron strengthen bones and improve blood health. Both macronutrients and micronutrients are vital for maintaining a healthy body and mind. Then, To make the session interactive, we asked the students about their food preferences—whether they preferred junk food or homely food. As expected, the majority expressed a preference for junk food. This response led us to highlight the importance of choosing healthy, nutrient-rich homely food over junk food. On the other hand, we discussed the ill effects of junk food, such as fast food, chips, and sugary drinks. These foods are high in unhealthy fats, sugars, and salt but lack the essential nutrients needed for growth and energy. Regular consumption of junk food can lead to obesity, poor digestion, lack of energy, and even serious health issues like diabetes, high bloodpressure, and heart problems. Then Shows a video showing “Healthy food vs junk food video song“.Next, We discussed the importance of a balanced diet, which provides all the nutrients the body needs in the right amounts. A balanced diet includes carbohydrates for energy, proteins for growth and repair, fats for energy storage, vitamins and minerals for good health, and water to stay hydrated. We explained that eating a variety of foods like rice, vegetables, fruits, eggs, fish, and dairy ensures a balanced diet. Students were encouraged to include more healthy, homemade meals in their daily diet and avoid unhealthy eating habits. A balanced diet helps in staying active, growing strong, and staying healthy.
In the final part of our session, we highlighted the crucial role of water in maintaining good health. It helps transport nutrients to cells and keeps the body hydrated, which is important for overall well-being. Students were encouraged to drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated and improve concentration, energy levels, and physical performance. Before concluding the session, we distributed a questionnaire to the students to gather their feedback and evaluate the effectiveness of the program.
Finally we concluded the program with vote of thanks. Student actively participated in the awareness program and they were very attentive.
